KENYA

Masai Mara National Reserve

The Masai Mara' rolling savannahs are perhaps the best know game reserve in Africa. Home to huge concentrations of lions and other predators, and the seasonal appearance of the celebrated Wildebeest Migration, the Mara consistently provides some of the most spectacular wildlife viewing in the world.

Amboseli National Park

Well known for the herds of gigantic bull elephants, so often resplendent with the backdrop of Kilimanjaro, Amboseli combines stunning scenery with close up game viewing. Additionally Ker & Downey has over many years established a relationship with the Masai community which allows for the most genuine of interactions with these traditional people.

Samburu/Shaba National Reserve

In stark contrast to the grassy plains to the south, Samburu lies in semi arid bush country, along the Ewaso Ngiro River. This river forms a lifeline for both the hardy Samburu tribes, as well as a multitude of well-adapted animals. This area highlights the ability of the wildlife to evolve to the diverse conditions of Kenya.

Lakes of the Great Rift Valley

Both Lake Nakuru and Lake Bogoria National Reserves are populated with thousands of pink flamingos, as well as having played an important role in the conservation of the Black rhino. With some of the best examples of Kenya's biodiversity, the Rift Valley provides an opportunity to experience Africa at its best.

We often visit places such as Lewa Downs, Loisaba and Borana to see some of the most romantic, boutique lodges in all Africa, and also to understand how private management has greatly assisted conservation efforts here.

Namunyak Community Lodge

Visit the most stunning lodge in the country set amongst some of the richest tribal culture, migrating elephant herds, and some of Kenya's most magical scenery.

Mount Kenya

Africa's second highest peak, at 17,057 feet is a reasonably tough four to six day trek. Any hiker will be rewarded with magnificent alpine vistas.

The Coast

Kenya's tropical coastline boasts not only fine beaches and reef; it also has many important remnants of the Swahili traditions of East Africa. The romantic island of Lamu being a definite highlight.
